Thank you for your reply. I've verified that we are not blacklisted.

Could it be that you are listed on a BlackList your connection is
being dropped by the remote host? If you turn up SMTP protocol
logging, what does it indicate?

Hello,Chris S
Some messages are stuck in the queue on our front end server and are stuck
in retry mode.
OS Windows 2003 SP 2 running Exchange 2003
Mcafee AV
The queue messages seem to give different reasons for this outbound email
that is stuck in retry. It is important to note this issue does not apply to
all messages sent outbound. 80% of the messages are part of a "mass mailing"
to external customers. The other 20% represents a nice sized number of
messages that eventually will expire as well.
1. The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink
2. Unable to bind to the destination server in DNS
3. The connection was dropped by the remote host
Troubleshooting thus far has included disabling AV, transport sinks, turning
on transport logs, and smtp logging. I have an open case with microsoft that
to date has not produced any results as the issue remains. We have proved
that it is not DNS, the antivirus software, or an issue with the transport
sinks.
