Routing Message from OWA

Is it possible to using Routing groups to be able to control the direction of
messages created when a user connects via OWA or is this totally different.
We want to be able to direct OWA activity to a particular backend Exchange
server by putting the OWA server in a separate Routing group that will direct
all messages to a particular bridgehead server.
My gut feeling is that this cannot be done because when a user uses OWA
he/she is connected directly to the backend Exchange server where the user's
mailbox resides. Routing group configuration has nothing to do with this.
Routing groups only comes into play when messages are sent to the physical
machine and depending on the address of where the message is going it will
route appropriately.
Please let me know if my gut feeling is right or if we can in fact tell OWA
not to connect to the user's backend server but sent do a particular
bridgehead server and let that bridgehead server figure out how to get the
message delivered.
All of this comes up because we are fighting with our security team to open
ports up but they are resisting (ports so OWA server can connect to the
various backend servers).
Please advise.
Thanks,
Charles
