Re: Exchange 2007 export to PST crashes powershell

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you install Outlook 2007
and Exchange 2007 SP1 management tools on a XP sp2 client. The PowerShell
will crash when you try to export email to PST in Outlook. If I have
misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:

1. The crash is mostly refer to some 3rd-party software on the XP client.
Do you install any antivirus software on the XP client? If yes, please try
to disable or uninstall it and then test this issue.

2. If the issue persists, I suggest you do clean boot on the XP client to
test:

To clean boot the problematic computer, please use the steps below:
a. Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks). Click OK.

b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select
the Selective Startup button.

c. Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below
Selective Startup.

d. Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft Services"
box, and remove all the check marks from the remained Non-Microsoft
Services.

e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.

f. After restarting, please check whether this issue will reoccur.

g. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.

3. If the issue persists after the above steps, I suggest you clean install
a new XP client, join it to domain, install Outlook 2007 on it, then
install the Exchange 2007 SP1 management tools. Then, test this issue.

Note: Please install the Outlook 2007 before install the Exchange
management tools.

| When I mentioned crash results, I was referring to the dialog box that
says (paraphrasing), "powershell has encountered a problem and must close",
then asks if I want to send data to Microsoft. I clicked the button to send
the data, but I don't know what it sent, nor do I have a copy of that data,
unless it's in a temp file somewhere. I'd be glad to share if you can tell
me where to look.
| As for the info in your blog, that would seem to work only if powershell
remains open after the crash, but it doesn't, so I have no way to get the
exception data.
