I want to configure replication between two Exchange 2003 servers in the
same domain at the same site with the same software and logical
configuration, but to use unique hostnames on the production and standby
servers. If something happens to the main production server, I wish to
use
the MDBDATA contents (EDB files and all log files) to the standby server.
Will this work? Note - I am not asking if my method is optimal or what
software to use (third party of clustering), BUT I am asking if I have my
concept is correct in that all I really need is the EDB files and log
files
for recovery on the standby server. My concern is that the standby server
actually going to read the EDB and log files that was created on another
server with different hostname. I read about the recovery switch/option,
but again, I am asking based on the first two sentences above - a
production
and a standby server scenario.

Org, Admin Group and Server Name need to match.
You'll need the edb and stm ( Not necessarily the logs if you are
restoring a full backup).

The AD should match as well so you can install with disasterrecovery
swtich.

Thanks, but again, I am not interested in the DISASTERRECOVERY SWITCH
option, I was asking based on a production server and a standby server and
replicating only the EDB, and STM files only - different hostnames for two
different servers. Thanks.

It should work as long as Org, ADmin Group and Store are the same
name, however, you are also going to have to create/reconnect all the
ad accounts to their correct mailboxes. Having an exact copy of AD in
the backup site and using the disasterrecovery switch makes things
much easier.
