Re: Ex2007 on WS2008 Backup?

Well in short that stinks. It will be interesting to see what comes of SBS
2008 (or whatever it is called) since I assume it will have some time of
backup built in. Maybe a stripped down version of DPM.

Thanks for correcting that Scott... :)

Either way - the bottom-line is, no Exchange backups from Windows 2008's
built-in Windows Server Backup util. You're going to have to buy something -
whether Microsoft DPM or a 3rd-party tool.

Actually, the options are Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager,
or a third-party backup application. You cannot take remote streaming
backups on Windows 2008 using NT Backup on Windows 2003. Remote streaming
backups are not supported on Windows 2008.

Hope this helps.

Yes, the Windows Server 2008-equivalent of NT Backup doesn't provide a
way to backup Exchange Server 2007. Exchange does have the necessary
APIs - Windows Server 2008 doesn't use them.

Your options are:
- third-party tools
- user NTBackup from Windows Server 2003 to perform a remote backup

I just wanted to double check what I am finding regarding backup of
Exchange
2007 on Windows Server 2008. That being that there is no way to do it
out of
the box? I have seen a hack regarding NTBackup from 2003 on 2008 but
that
scares me a bit. I find it hard to believe that the only MS supported
solution is DPM at over $1000. For small shops NTBackup it is quite
fine.
This on top of upgrade block from 2003->2008 seems like it is very
unfriendly
going to Server 2008 now. Any ideas?
