Re: 4.4.7 non-delivery reports

It sounds strange that many ISPs are causing a timeout error as a way to
reject spam.

However you can try to send the email manually using telnet and see exactly
what happens and at what stage is the SMTP connection failing.

Hi

Yes, I know everything points to a problem at the receiving server but I
don't see how there could be a problem with a whole range of servers at
various ISP's. The more likely scenario would be that an item of anti-spam
software is rejecting the mail but not giving a valid reason. The problem
only arose recently and only since the publicised problem with a trojan
hidden in PDF spam.

John

Hi

Running Exchange Server 2003. We're getting quite a few NDR's with 4.4.7
status when sending PDF attachments. This occurs whether sending via DNS
or relaying via our ISP. We don't seem to be on any blacklists and all
tests indicate that our server is not an open relay and is configured
correctly. Same email sent without attachment gets through fine.

We suspect that a particular item of ISP based anti-spam software is
causing the problem. Anyone know which one? Generally, we get through
OK to organisations using their own email server but not where certain
ISP's are involved. (UK Orange for example).

Regards

John
