Re: Missing Self-Addressed SMTP Email

an "Advanced find" can be run in Outlook from the top level folder of the
mailbox...to search for "hard deleted" items in the dumpster, see this (and
sometimes a bad rule doesn't show up - you might try running Outlook with
the /cleanrules switch):

Well, as I wrote, before posting I looked extensively for rules, both
client- and server-based, and did not find a single one. And I've looked
through pretty much every single folder in the user's mailbox without
finding any of the known messages.

Please elaborate if you mean anything specific by "advanced find" and the
"dumpsters."

Thanks.

if message tracking indicates it was delivered, it most likely was...I
would do an "advanced find" in user 2's mailbox, searching the dumpsters,
as well, and look for any rules that might be moving items to another
folder, maybe pst...

I enabled Message Tracking later on Friday. Today I had the user perform
a couple of scan-to-email tests.

Message 1 from User1 to User 2 - does show up in Message Tracking as
delivered, and did show up in User2's Inbox.
Message 2 from User2 to User 2 - does show up in Message Tracking as
delivered to the store for User2 (identical to Message 1), but does not
show up in User2's Inbox or any other folder in Outlook.

I also double checked that Antigen for Exchange did not trap the message
and that there are no rules defined.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Looking for some advice or references on why selected
application-generated SMTP mail fails to deliver to one particular
user's mailbox after it seems to successfully pass through the SMTP
virtual server.

The environment is Exchange Server 2003 SP2, with a single Exchange
server in a single-domain AD forest. The Exchange server is not a
domain controller. All servers are Windows Server 2003.

The SMTP mail in question is generated by two methods and then
presented to SMTP on the Exchange server from other nodes on the same
IP subnet. One source is an ASP-based Web app running on another
server. The other is scan-to-email from Ricoh Aficio multifunction
copiers. All IP addresses on the subnet are granted access to the
SMTP virtual server.

The only messages that disappear are ones presented with one
particular user's email address in both the From: and To: fields.
Using either method:
- mail "From" that user to other email addresses is always delivered.
- mail "From other users to this user is always delivered.
- mail "From" other users to their own email addresses is always
delivered.
- but mail "From" this one user to her own email address is never
delivered.
All mail show up normally in SMTP server logs.

This user has no client or Exchange server rules defined. The
missing mail is not in her Junk E-mail folder. Microsoft Antigen is
on the Exchange server but the missing mail doesn't show as
Quarantined there.

Thanks.
