single forest, two domains, one exchange org

I'm pretty sure I can do this, but I want to make sure before I go
commit myself to this. I have a project that's partially built, but
I've been thrown a curve ball today and have to basically split what
was going to be one forest/one domain, to one forest/two domains.
originally the network is just a normal domain, company.local. we were
going to setup an exchange org, no problem.
now i have this issue where they want to add a sister company into the
network, and i'm not really wanting both companies in the same domain
b/c while i will be managing AD for company A, sister company wants to
manage their own users/etc. i need them to share the same exchange
org, so i am guessing i want a single forest with two domains and they
can both access exchange.
does this work? having exchange in forest1\domain1.local and having it
accessible by forest1\domain2.local?
i was going to do some r&d and test the scenario, but if anyone has
any suggestions or comments i'd appreciate it. i'm pretty used to just
having a single domain in our networks
thanks!
