RE: MX logic vs edge transport server role

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I'm not exactly sure about the contract details, and I'm sure the cost varies
depending on the number of mailboxes. I can tell you that we just switched
away from MX Logic to MessageLabs and the cost was about the same for us. MX
Logic allowed in quite a bit of spam, but MessageLabs has been rock solid.

I would recommend contacting them and getting a demo and quote.

Can you tell me a little bit more details for messagelabs. How much cost?
Whether it needs a contract?

We try to sign up with MX logic which it needs no contract and only
month-to-month, $500 for 400 users.

9 engines, user can see what spams and blocked.
I really appreciate your help and response to my postings:)

I have implemented Edge Services and in fact use it now. But I'm not real
crazy about it as an anti-spam device. I think it's best value is just being
able to offload SMTP traffic to it. Of course, as with any other anti-spam
solution, it's all in how you "tweak" the filter settings. For me, it's a
hassle to constantly try to configure it to properly balance blocking spam
versus high rates of false positives. It seems that just when you think
you've got it right, a new wave of spam hits that makes you go right back to
the drawing board.

Of course every environment is different, as is the type of mail they
receive; but in my humble opinion, I believe you'd be disappointed if an Edge
server was your only method of blocking spam.

thank you for your good advise. We are a small bank so the security of our
member information is very important. If we use outsource solution, our mgmt
concern about the vendor reputation and security.

We already have Iron mail, PGP universal encryption server and ORF of
VAmsoft but our internet users just still got a lot of spams in emails.....

What do you think about MS edge transport server role? Did you implement
that one? How is it?

I have used MX Logic, IronMail, IronPort, Edge Services and several other
solutions. Obviously, some of these are outsourced services and some are
software or appliances that you manage within your environment. I prefer
outsourcing where possible, because it reduces your administrative burden
quite a bit; and with spam you're always trying to play "catch-up."

If you are set on managing your own solution in house, I'd suggest IronPort.
It has the best performance and is by far the most accurate anti-spam engine
I've seen (Brightmail).

Of the outsourced services I've used (and currently use), I definitely
prefer MessageLabs. You may not get quite the granular control that you have
with other solutions, but you will likely find that it is not necessary.
Message delivery is very fast and does exactly what it's supposed to - block
spam and virtually eliminate false positives. Like IronPort, MessageLabs uses
the Brightmail engine, which I didn't realize until after we already signed
up for the service.

I hear MX logic is powerful email and web security security services at the
network perimeter. Is any know whether this 3rd party software can compete
with MS edge transport server?
