Yes, add the smarthost to that Connector.
As a sanity check, send a message to an external email address and look at the headers - does it follow the path hub -> Edge -> remote host?

ok its there on the hub transport. but i do not believe it was created by the edge sync. i had the hub server up and running before i added the edge. i just added the edge today but i am not sure i configured it right.
on my edge,
it has no send connectors present. is that right? on the hub, i got edge subscriptions with the edge server in there. under smtp connectors, i got a default instance of smtp in there and smarthost confgured. on the source server tab, i got the edge server in there. should the source be the hub or edge?
thanks

go to Org Config - Hub Transport -Send Connectors.

"nobody" <nobody@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23P%23JEVhNIHA.4912@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxon my edge server, there is no send connector. Are you talking about the hub transport?
"Bharat Suneja [MVP]" <bharat@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:epAFh1gNIHA.292@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx- Locate the Send Connector to the internet. If auto-created by EdgeSync, it's called "EdgeSync - <Site-Name> to Internet"
- On the Source Server tab, you'll see the Edge Transport server. The Hub(s) forward to this Edge.
- On Network tab, check "Route mail through the following smart hosts:" and click "Add" to add smarthosts.
Hub -> Edge -> Smarthost.

"nobody" <nobody@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23LjgRHgNIHA.4136@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxyou mean if I specify a smarthost on the hub server, it will replicate to the edge? or would it forward all email to the external smarthost?
"Bharat Suneja [MVP]" <bharat@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:OrChu9fNIHA.5140@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxAs the error states, if you have EdgeSync enabled, you shouldn't configure this from the Edge Transport server(s). Try this from a Hub Transport server. It will replicate to the Edge using EdgeSync.

How are you trying to do this?
