I am hosting my own NS's - no one else is responsible for my records - I
setup the mailbox's in pop3 connector right?

If you are going to use the SBS POP3 Connector and CEICW its best to post
the microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs group since that is specific to SBS
product and not part of Exchange Server itself.

Ok heres where I stand and I am going to try and be as detailed as

I am running SBS Server 2003 w/ Exchange 2003 SP2 - AD / DNS / SMTP / POP/
OWA already setup and running - My whole goal is to setup this server to
Receive email directly (host its own email) into the Distribution group so
that when user's use OWA to access their email it automatically pulls it
up.
Domains:
Local - domainname.local
DNS has example.org setup in Forward lookup zone along with MX record / A
and Reverse PTR
Am attempting to setup with SMTP/POP (If I can use POP) for
mail.example.org
(mx points to that with the global IP of the router)
I ran CEICW
-Internet access - Broadband with router - DNS is pointed at myself
- Web cert - use the same
- Internet Email - Enable
- Use DNS to route
- Email Retreival Method - Check in "Use MS Connector for POP3 Mailboxes";
Check in "Use Exchange" - Bubble in "Email is delivered directly to my
server"
- Email Domain - example.org
- Pop3 Mail accounts - 50 users setup (using port 110) - example of one
with
settings below
Username = user@xxxxxxxxxxx | Mail Server = mail.example.org | Mailbox
type
= Global Mailbox (can also choose exchange mailbox) | Email Domain =
domainname.local
- Use following sched - Every 15 Mins
- Allowing exchange to remove some email attachments and saving bad
attachement to folder
CEICW errored on email config the first time - the second time with the
same
settings it successfully saved my settings -
At that point I open Outlook on my personal machine with my personal email
setup (josh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and the josh@xxxxxxxxxxx is setup - I
send a
test message from josh@xxxxxxxxxxx to josh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and I did
not
receive. RD back into the server - Open IIS / SMTP Virtual Server /
example.org / Domains - Heres my list:

If I double click on * both box's were unchecked - I checked the "Allow
incoming mail to be relayed to this domain" and left the "Use Helo instead
of
ehlo" unchecked - Using DNS to route -
Once I checked the "Allow incoming mail to be relayed. . ." I was able to
send from josh@xxxxxxxxxxx to josh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and receive the
instantly. Performing a reply yeilds no response back - and no new email
in
OWA via the user josh@xxxxxxxxxxx -
Now onto Exchange System Manager
I will start with recipient poloicy -
- Default Policy - Priority = lowest Inside the policy shows this
-Filter - (mailnickname=*)
-Email Addresses Policy -
SMTP / @example.org - is set as Primary and has a Checkmark in "This
exchange organization is responsible for all email delivery . . ."
SMTP / @domainname.local - not primary and does have a check mark in the
exchange org. is resp for email del . . .
X.400 = C=US;A=; P=DOMAINNAME; O=EXCHANGE
This policy has been applied and updated.
Server (in system manager)
ServerName
-HTTP - running
- IMAP4 - Stopped
- NNTP - Stopped
- Pop3 - Started - Settings below
- IP Address: Internal IP of Exchange server over 110
- Access Tab / Auth - Basic and Simple are checked (TLS IS NOT)
- Connection accepts all and there is no Certificate
- Message Format / MIME (both)
- Calendering uses recipient server
SMTP - Started - Settings below
- Ip Address - Internal IP of Exchange server over 25
- Access tab / Auth - Anonymous access is checked (resolve anonymous email
NOT checked) and Integrated Windows Auth / Users = Authenticated users

- Access tab / relay - granted access to local network and local host and
checkmark for auth users successfully auth.
- Delivery tab / Advanced Delivers - 30 Hop count / FQDN = example.org /
no
smart host / checkmark in perform reverse dns lookup / external DNS
servers

SMTP Connector -
-General Tab - Use DNS to route / Local Bridgheads: Server | example.org

-Address Space - TYPE = SMTP | Address = * | Cost = 1 / Connector Scope:
Entire Organization - Allow Messages to be relayed to these domains is
checked.
There is no connected routing groups, and delivery restrictions - default
messages are accepted.
POP3 Connector:
Sample Mailbox: Port 110
Username = user@xxxxxxxxxxx | Mail Server = mail.example.org | Mailbox

The routing rules contains the To: and the Exchange Box's they associate
with.
IIS SMTP Virtual Server -
Same settings as Exchange server (if i turn off the IIS smtp then the
exchange smtp disables, enable it and exchange smtp enables) except I have
no
setting to configure external DNS and now inside the domain list there is
this:

I dont know why an extra example.org got added in there but the only one I
can delete is the * -
