Yes, you can use Edge Transport servers in an Exchange Server 2003/2000
environment, just as you would any non-Exchange SMTP relay hosts/gateways.
You would lose the advantage of using EdgeSync and the level of automation
it provides (in terms of synching recipient and some configuration data,
auto-creation of outbound and inbound Connectors, etc.).
