This is an arbitrary thing. The first sort of feedback I'd say is that why
would someone want to document whether sending 100 or more emails at a time
is acceptable or not, pro's, con's, etc.
Without mind to my opinion, it is really up to the user and sometimes the
system as to the limits of sending emails that you want. For example,, our
Exchange 2003 system is configured to not allow more than 5000 emails from a
single message at a time.
It isn't bad practice unless "you" think it's bad practice. The only
downside that I can think of is that if you are sending marketing material
or some sort of soliciation, recipients mail systems and filters might
qualify it as spam. Now if your boss or boss's boss has a virus - he might
infect others with mass mail.
I would assume that 100 emails is fine and there are other things to worry
about that may be more important than digging up documentation on a really -
lite decision on whether to send this quantity or not.
Bear in mind, that I've consulted with small to large companies over than
past 16 years in the US and Europe and I've never had any clients concerned
about this type of an issue.
I guess it may be more content oriented. Are they planning to send 100
emails with 5MB attachments? That will be a problem - it'll plug up your
internet (depending on avail bandwidth) and maybe your queue's. And also
receipeient systems might not allow larger emails, etc....

I have to give my boss an answer with support documentation to the
following
question. Is it a bad practice to send out an email to over 100
individuals.
He has a higher that has asked the question and he wants to give them
documentation on why its okay to do this. This individual is from the old
school and thinks that we could end up sending viruses or other issues
could
arise. Yeah I know, this is out there but we have to give him an answer.
He
is high on the food chain.
Thanks in advance
