Re: Setting up IMAP on exchange 2003 server

Ed, beleive me I tested all these commands successfullyand even I got the
test email. I referred the document given below for all steps. This doc is
for SMTP test.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/323350

The only reason I am not posting here my results is for security reasons. I
do not want to display my doimain and my email address here. The SMTP is
working fine, but our IMAP client is unable to send email. outgoing is not
working for some reasons. Please advice.

ED,thanks for your input. Actually when I did telnet I get the prompt 220
ok,
also it gives me mail from: billg@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and says sender ok. and
also
when I type RCPT to and type address and type the test mail, but I never
got
the test mail. Is there anything blocking to this test mail? am i supposed
to
get back the reply. However, it did not give me any other errors.

I don't believe that it should be necessary to create a different SMTP
virtual server.

From your machine that runs Outlook (and handles SMTP unsuccessfully) try
this:

C:/>telnet servername.domain.com 25
HELO yourid.domain.com
MAIL FROM:billg@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
RCPT TO:yourmailbox@xxxxxxxxxx
DATA
This is a test.
..
QUIT

If you're successful, your mailbox (yourmailbox@xxxxxxxxxx) will receive
the
message from billg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx You should get a banner identifying
the
Exchange server after the telnet, and then you should get 220 OK
responses
afterward, or something a little different as appropriate. Please post
the
conversation.

Yes I followed al the steps for SMTP. It still did not work. Although
is
it
required to create another SMTP virtial server? I am currenrly using
the
Default SMTP Server. Please advise.

Did you follow all the SMTP steps too? SMTP is what's used to send
mail;
IMAP is just the mailbox retrieval part.

If the iPhone is an IMAP client, then it should work. You haven't

any details how you've configured iPhone users to connect, so I

Ed, we are using outllook for all clients and everything works
fine
inbound
and outbound. However, the reason IMAP is configured so that
iphone
users
can
do send/receive emails, but the problem we are having is
currently
iphone
users are unable to send emails. Please advice if any solution to
this.

"Ed Crowley [MVP]" wrote:

Outlook really works better when using MAPI; IMAP is a much less
functional
protocol.

Are the Outlook clients configured to authenticate for sending
outbound
mail? Using the same credentials as for downloading the mail
should
be
fine. Is Outlook sending mail to the same server?

I understand. The SMTP Server is configured, also do I have
to
configure
secondary SMTP virtual server, if so how? Is there any
documentation.
How
outgoing emails working? please let me know.

IMAP isn't used to send mail; it's a protocol to retrieve
