Bharat,
Yes, you were correct that KB944302 didn't do anything. It turned out it
was a problem with our VMS and Multinet software.
Thanks for all your help on this issue.

That's interesting - having tested it, I'm fairly certain that won't
result in the condition you're describing. Try telnetting to the Receive
Connector and send a message with just the alias/localpart in the MAIL and
RCPT commands.

- Don't think that's possible.
- Rejection = messages are never accepted.
- If there's nothing in message tracking, smtp log, or agent log,
there's no reason to believe Exchange even saw the message or rejected
it.
- Do NDRs have a particular error code or are messages rejected for
different reasons? Can you paste the NDR text?

Bharat,
I checked the SMTP logs and the message tracking logs.
Does Exchange 2007 have an possible option where it would pad a extra
domain to the email address and then reject the email?
Thanks for the input.

Doubt it's Exchange.
- Check message tracking logs as well as a sanity check

I don't know if this problem could be creating by Exchange 2007. First
of all, let me start by saying that my two Exchange 2007 servers are
accepting email from the internet. ExchangeBPA tool does not pull
any outstanding issues up.
Here is our problem:
We have a VMS system (uses Multinet - from Process Software), when
we try to send any email through the VMS system it is padding an
extra domain to the recipent email address. For example, if the
username email is username@xxxxxxx , the rejection from the VMS
postmaster NDR is username@xxxxxxxxxxx
On the two exchange 2007 servers I cannot see anything in the SMTP
log files.
Would Exchange 2007 SMTP pad the extra .edu onto the email address.
On our Exchange 2007 FE server we are at Update # 4
Thanks in advance.
