Hi Experts,
I am trying to restore an exchange corrupted database (In a test Env ?
am trying to prepare my severs for disaster recovery), but the mails
after the last backup is not getting restored.
Here?s the scenario:
An Exchange Server with 2 Storage Groups, each has a mailbox store in
it.
SG1DB1, SG2DB2
Logs files are in separate disk and database in the other.
Backup ran successful, before the back I sent mail to all test
mailboxes.
After back there were several mails to&fro, I also sent a mail to test
mailboxes.
I created a Recovery storage group and added SG1DB1 to it.
Restored the backup to it and the temp log files to E:\temp (at this
time database is corrupted and the store is in dismounted state), the
option ?last restore set? is not checked.
Only Database file is corrupted and I have all the transaction log
files intact.
The files in E:\temp are
Restore.env
E0000022.log
I copied all the current log files from the directory which ranges
from 22 ? 28
So now the E:\temp has
Restore.env
E0000022.log?..E0000028.log
I ran Eseutil /mh against the edb file I jus restored. The log
required is 0x22-0x22
I ran Eseutil /mk against the original e00.chk, the log is at 0x29
Eseutil/ml against E00.edb against the E:\temp files reported no error
Now I performed a hard recovery with Eseutil /cc against the E:\temp?
all files in the folder got removed
The database state is now clean shutdown
Enabled the ?this database can be overwritten? on SG1DB1
Copied the Ebd and Stm files from RSG to SG1DB1..and successfully
mounted the database.
BUT, the mails received after the back up time is not present there????
Am I doing something wrong?? Can anyone one provide me the step by
step instructions to replay the current log files (I guess I did it,
but mails are not there ? )..why?
Because the restore.env file tells Exchange what logs are required to
bring the store back to it orginal state. Replaying does not mean
applying every log to a store, it means applying those logs that are
needed to bring the store back to the same state that is was when it
was backed up.A log can be replayed and purged and not have actually
been applied to a store.
Since you are using the RSG, any logs that are not needed are not
applied, though they may be played and purged
Also please provide links to DR documents..
www.microsoft.com/exchange is the place to start
