I've tried creating it in exchange and using ad.... it's failed both times.

I right clicked the group and checked to make sure under the message flow
options this user was set to allow under message delivery restrictions.
Thanks!

The following error is from any user to the distro list

I went back and using exchange console mail enabled all the contacts. I
wasn't sure if the group was created right. So I deleted it and
recreated
it
using the exchange manager. I logged into a users mailbox and typing
in
the
distro list name... it appears.. however when I click on the list to
display
all the contacts of the distro list I get:
Access is denied.
Outlook Web Access was unable to access the Active Directory resource.
This
may be because the Active Directory object does not exist or the object
has
become corrupted, or because you do not have sufficient access rights
for
the
object.

This was using Outlook Web Access. Will the email still be sent? How
can
I
fix the access denied error?

Running dcpromo on an Exchange server is unsupported. Don't do that.
You
don't need to for this, anyway.

I missed that you're running Exchange 2007, sorry. You should create
the
groups and contacts using Exchange Management Console or Exchange
Management
Shell, not Active Directory Users and Computers. IIRC you should be
able
to
upgrade the ones you've already created using EMC to Exchange 2007
mail-enabled groups and contacts, but if you can't you can certainly
delete
and recreate them.

The machine exchange is running is not a domain controller. Would
it
be a
problem running dcpromo now (after exchange 2007 has been
installed?) I
would
like to be able to manage exchange tasks from the exchange server?
Thanks

Do the objects have an E-Mail Addresses tab? If not, right-click
the
object, select Exchange Tasks, and select to give it e-mail
addresses.
See:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997493.aspx. Be sure
that
the
workstation you're using to run Active Directory Users and
Computers
has
the
Exchange Management Tools installed.

In the properties of the group... an email address shows up.
Could
you
explain how to verify the contacts are mail enabled? Thanks!

Hello, I'm trying to figure out how to create a distro list
using
Exchange
2007 with external email addresses. I've tried creating
contacts
and
adding
email addresses to each contact and adding those contacts to a
security
group... with no luck. Any advice would be great. Thanks!
