Presuming the sending server actually tried the first MX record
first, your server may've been too busy, or the speed to slow. ADSL
isn't the best choice for broadband and this may be a factor. I'm
curious as to your secondary MX record setup....why do you have
this configuration? It isn't a very commonplace one, and if your
server goes down for a weekend, how do you expect to get the mail
from that secondary mail server into your user's mailboxes?
secondary mx records are over-rated anyway. Nuthin but SPAM bait.
Not if it's just used for store/forward - the only way mail comes
into the organization is through the front door, as it were, whether
it was queued on the backup server or no.
Still SPAM bait regardless. Just takes a different hop.
An *additional* hop, sure. If you're saying you think the mere presence of a
secondary MX record *attracts* spammers who wouldn't ordinarily bother
targeting the *real* server....well, it's an interesting theory, but I'm not
sure how one could prove or disprove it.
Not if its only accessible when the primary is down thats a different
