What's the problem with it on the DMZ? Should it be "inside"? I just have port 80/443 open to it on the DMZ to it's external IP and NAT it to it's iside DMZ IP, wouldn't this be just the same internally?

Don't know why you're worried about the SSL. The fact that you have
the Exchange Front End in the DMZ should be of far more worry to you.
Why are you asking about the SSL rather than whether or not the advice
to put the FE in the DMZ was sound or not (it wasn't, by the way).
