Re: E2K3 Recovery Storage Group question

Great replies from both of you. Again thanks. As this was a recovery on an
SBS 2003 server, it seems that Frances has pinpointed the cause.

Cheers!

Thank you Frances and Susan for your help.

Using the ADUC search method suggested by both of you, I was able to
determine that, somehow, a user was attached to the RSG mailbox store.
All
mailboxes, however, had the red Xs as I believe is expected. Fortunately,
it was a new Administrative user so was comfortable following the
suggested
resolution (remove Exchange attributes) and was able to delete the RSG
mailbox store and then delete the corresponding database and log files.

Can someone explain to me how a new account gets associated with a mailbox
store in an RSG? I thought this wasn't supposed to happen? Would this
user
have actually been able to send and receive email?

Again, thank you both.

Kevin

I followed the process in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824126/, used
an
online backup restore -- which redirected the store to the RSG -- then
used
EXMerge to bring the content back into the main SG. I did this a while
ago
but I'm certain that was all. The only reason I'm revisiting this is
I'm
getting errors in my Exchange online backup agent that indicates the
mailbox
store cannot be opened (it is trying to back up the RSG, which I really
don't want anyway). Also, I want to reclaim the space used by the RSG's
store.

you shouldn't be getting that on a restored store...did you do any
"reconnecting" of accounts to any mailbox there? what, exactly, did
you
do
with the restored database/s?

I dismounted the Mailbox Store under the RSG. When I try to delete
the
store, I get the following:

Error C1034A7F: One or more users currently use this mailbox store.
These
users must be moved to a different mailbox store or be mail disabled
before
deleting this store.

What should I do?

Thank you for your reply. I already looked at these and they don't
tell
me
what I want to know. Tons of info on how to do the restore, not so
on
what
you do after you've complete the restore. It may be that I missed
it
in
the
ocean of info so perhaps you could be more specific about where in
the
documentation it is referenced?

Thank you.

I can't seem to find out what to do after a successful restore
from
a
recovery storage group. Do I just dismount the RSG and delete
the
databases? How should I "clean up" from the restore process
but
leave
the
system in a state that is ready for a future recovery if needs
be?

Thanks.

Kevin
