Yes, but the Web Service Extension named WebDAV is nothing to do with OWA -
that extension enables WebDAV on the entire server, and should be disabled.
There is a different Web Service Extension in E2000/2003/2007 named
Microsoft Exchange Server, and this is what enables WebDAV access to just
the Exchange data. Look at the properties of the Microsoft Exchange Server
extension, and you will see that it uses DAVEX.DLL , which is the Exchange
implemetation of WebDAV. If you install a new Win200x server, then look at
the extensions, you will see that WebDAV is Prohibited. Install Exchange
200x, and you will see a new extension named Microsoft Exchange Server, and
this is what enables DAV with Exchange.

The exchagne 2000 and 2003 machines got OWA configured. So, I said webdav
is
enabled by default.
Even though, When Exchange 2007 is added to domain having Exhange 2003
server with webdav enabled on it, do the webdav on Exhcange 2003 disables?
Does this happens?
Do the Exchagne 2007 takes care of the security problems in its domain by
disabling webdav on all the servers?
Please let me know!

Mahadev.

Actually, I think you'll find that WebDAV is Prohibited by default. It
always has been on the servers that I've installed.

yes, its working. With "Microsoft Exchange Server" service extension
enabled,
webdav queries are working over Exchange 2007.
I got one more Query,
WebDAV service extension is enabled in Exchange Server 2003 , by
default.
where as, it is disabled or prohibited on the Exchange Server 2007 by
default
during installation.
My question is that, When an Exchange Server 2007 is added to a domain
having Exhcange Server 2003 machines, do the WebDAV service extension
on
all
the Exchange Server 2003 machines are prohibited ?
because of adding an Exchange Server 2007 to existing Exhcange Domain,
do
the wedav service will be disabled on all the servers?

Hi All,
On my Exchange Server , I disabled(prohibited) Webdav in the IIS
manager. And I ran some "Propfind" query over my mailbox in the
exchange ,
to
get the display name and some other properties. I know that Propfind
is
a
webdav related entity.
To my surprise, the query worked and came out with multiple
outputs(Status 207). Even though I disabled Webdav and restarted
the
machine
,how it works? Do i have to do some thing more to make it disable?
Some time back, when i executed the same query , I got 501
error.
Then
i enabled the Webdav. And it worked fine. Now I am not able to
reproduce
the
same error status.
Please reply soon.
Awaiting Reply,
Mahadev
The IIS Extension named 'WebDAV' governs WebDAV operation throughout
the
whole server, and is best left Prohibited.
The Extension named Microsoft Exchange Server is the one that enables
WebDAV
operation on the Exchange Virtual Directory, and should be set to
'Allow'
