Hi,
Never offline defrag unless you have too. If you have an Enterprise version
of Exchange then consider moving users to a new clean store.
There is no hard and fast rule concerning whitespace size, as in general it
all boils down to the Exchange Server design the database sits on.
Personally I never worry about whitepace until it hits 20GB +.
So, if you can move users to a new clean store then do so - this is your
best option.
If you have Standard and are limited with the one store then an offline
defrag may be necessary if you cannot move users to another Exchange Server
or increase disk size.
What whitespace size are you seeing? and what version of Exchange?
Oliver
