Re: Safe to delete OWA default site?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I have Exchange 2003.
I just want everything back how it was before i've messed around with it.
I don't know exactly what i've changed but i get a 500 error when trying to
access servername/exchange now even though it lets me type in
username/password.

Thanks.

Hi,
Is it safe to delete OWA default site? I've made a few mistakes with
permissions and would just like to start again. Hollowing a guide which
says the below. If i restart the service it suggests will it stop my mail
server as well. I don't mind any interuption to OWA but do not want any
to actual mail server.
Thanks..

Start IIS. Click Start, All Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet
Information Services.

Backup the metabase just in case. To do this, right-click Default Web
Site, click All Tasks, and then click Save Configuration to a File. Type
a filename for the file and click OK.

Expand Default Web Site, and then delete the following virtual
directories:

Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
OMA
Exadmin
Exchange
Public
ExchWeb

Start Metabase Explorer. To do this, click Start, All Programs, IIS
Resources, and then click Metabase Explorer.

Expand the LM key, right-click the DS2MB key, and then click Delete.

Close Metabase Explorer.

Restart the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service to re-create the
virtual directories in IIS.

The method you describe only works for Exchange 2000 - is that what you
have? Exchange 2003 is a bit more complicated. Exchange 2003 also uses
the OWA site for ActiveSync and OMA, so they would be interrupted too.
Apart from that, removing the OWA VDir will not cause any problems.

Of course, it may be easier to just get the permissions bak to where they
were. What have you changed, IIS permissions?

Lee.
