Re-Post Unable to Relay! Exchange 2007

Hello All

Is it me or have Microsoft managed to make things even more confusing
then they really need to be! My original post follows below and then
some more information underneath which details what else I did to try
and solve this problem which is still not fixed. Still scratching my
head!!!

---------------------------
For reasons I won't go into here I have deployed an Exchange 2007 ET
server as a smart host in my DMZ, this also sits behind ISA 2006. My
Exchange organisation is Exchange 2003 and the ET server is purely a
smart host (does not run edgesync or talk to a hub transport)

Previously I had an Exchange FE server in my DMZ which was server
published by ISA and this sent and received mail. I have simply
reconfigured the server publishing rule for SMTP to publish my new
Exchange 2007 server. Incoming mail works fine but I am getting an
unable to relay message when I attempt to send out external mail.

Now, I can fix this by adding an accepted domain for an address space
of * and a type of external relay but this opens up my ET server to
be a relay (very bad!)

So my question is where on earth do I configure the ET server to
restrict relaying based on an IP address. I basically want to tell the
ET server to only relay to external addresses if the computer trying
to relay is my Exchange 2003 mailbox server.

Thanks in advance

AJ
---------------------------------------------------------------

So next step I created another Receive connector and configured this
to only accept mail from my internal Exchange 2003 server (IP Address)
but I still have the same problem. Basically I need to remove the
accepted domain of * and just apply this to the new receive connector
which should in theory only allow a connection from my mailbox server.
I cannot solve this issue which should be really simple!

Could someone please provide some help

Thanks

AJ
