That right its an old 55 server. The problem is every time I fire up the
SMTP connecter my outbound queue fills up with hundreds to thousands of
NDR's headed out to email addresses in Korea. First thing I thought of was
open relay. Checked settings. Relay is completely off. So I figured I'd
try to isolate the issue and completely disconnected the server from the
network expecting to see the flood to stop BUT it does not. Even when the
server is physically disconnected from the network the outbound queue
continues to fill up with NDRs. See Message below.

What the heck is going on? I'm thinking virus but so far scans have turned
up nothing and the server has up to date AV defs.

I am absolutly perplexed by this problem and could use any help or advice
you can give.

TIA

Do you allow authenticated relay?

Also, if the 5.5 server is accepting mail directly from the Internet,
that is bad. Best practice is to use a gateway that can do address
validation and only accept messages for valid SMTP addresses.

Using 5.5 makes this pretty difficult.
