RE: RPC kicking my rear

Gary,

I've been working on this exact issue (I believe) all day. I setup RPC over
HTTP
connection but couldn't get it to connect via SSL.

I to have single Exchange server that is a member server and one server as
my DC.

OWA was working via an SSL connection also with issue.

I set everything up referencing the following links.

Configure RPC over HTTP/S on a Single Exchange Server:
http://www.petri.co.il/configure_rpc_over_https_on_a_single_server.htm

Configure SSL on your Website with IIS: (This included setuping a CA)
http://www.petri.co.il/configure_rpc_over_https_on_a_single_server.htm

Configure Outlook 2003 to use RPC over HTTP/S
http://www.petri.co.il/configure_outlook_2003_to_use_rpc_over_http.htm

Testing RPC over HTTP/S Connection
http://www.petri.co.il/testing_rpc_over_http_connection.htm

After all was setup and I began testing per the link above. The LAN Test
passed connecting to an Exchange Server with a TCP/IP connection. But I
couldn't ever get it to connect to the Exchange Server via HTTP/S over the
LAN, even we I forced TCP/IP filtering of ports 80 and 443. Since it
wouldn't connect via SSL via LAN I new the connecting via SSL over the WAN
would also fail. I tried any way to verify it would fail.

I search numerous sites and almost al had the same steps to set this up,
with maybe 1 or 2 little differences between them. Still no luck. After
playing around I found that I was able to force the SSL connection via the
LAN and also connectn to the Exchange Server via SSL over the WAN after I
made a minor change in IIS.

What I did was the following.

Open IIS Manager

In IIS Manager, in the console tree, expand the server you want, then expand
Web Sites.

Right Click on Default Web Site then click Properties

Click on the Home Directory Tab

Click on the drop down menu for Application Pool (at the bottom)

Change it from DefaultApplicationPool to ExchangeApplicationPool

Click Apply

When the RPC Inheritance Overrides Dialog Box(es) pops up click OK to all

Click OK

Test as noted in the link above for Testing a RPC connection.

After I did this everything worked fine.

Good luck.
