RPC over HTTP

I have a FE-BE Exchange setup. Both servers are Server 2003 R2 with
Exchange 2003 SP2. I have installed the RPC Proxy service on the front
end and have enabled the appropriate settings in System Manager. I
have followed M$ guide to setting it up to the
letter..............twice. I have the same issue both times. I am able
to navigate to https://server.domain.com/rpc/rpcproxy.dll , out in
credentials and the expected blank screen with the lock in the status
bar. This tells me my cert is working and I can connect to the front
end. When I set up Outlook, again following the M$ guide, I get asked
for credentials but not from server.domain.com as before but from the
local box, i.e mail.domain.local, and it will not let me authenticate.
I am sure I have done something wrong but where?? Any help would be
appreciated as this is the last step I need to take to finally get rid
of VPN access. Thanks in advance!
