brick-level backup is worthless in a DR situation...and not recommended by
Microsoft or anyone who's worked with Exchange for any period of time...if
your users are constantly requesting email recovery, set your DIR to 30
days, or something...if someone needs something further back than that,
restore the mailbox store to a Recovery Storage Group, and get the missing
email...this is also a good way to validate the usability of your backups...

Hello,
I have 2 Exchange Servers - each running Exchange 2003 on Windows
2000(SP4)
servers.
I am trying to backup the individual mailboxes (brick-level, I know I can
do
the whole IS... but I like the individual boxes as my users are constantly
asking for recovery of email). I am using Backup Exec v10.1 - and have
tested
with NTBackup as well. Same results.
When trying to backup the individual mailboxes (expanding the mailbox
store)
I receive an 'Access Denied' message - One 1 server, but not the other. I
have looked through all the security settings for each server and each
store... they look the same. I know the problem is not with the
Organization
as both servers reside in the same Org on the same Domain.
But.... I just realized that the one that works... does NOT have SP2
installed for Exchange 2003. Could Ex2003 SP2 have ruined my ability to
access these mailboxes for restoration? If so, how do I regain access?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Chris
