Re: DST update for Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003

When I ran the tool, it named the batch file MSEXTMZ_1.BAT; I don't know what
controls the name of the batch file. Whatever its name, it appears to be
the only batch file in the folder
\Program Files\MsExTmz\<name of Exchange Server>

susan, please correct me if I am wrong on this.

Thanks Logan. So, running the MsExTmzCfg.exe tool doesn't affect the
mailboxes. It just creates the batch file. Do you know the name of the
batch file?

I'm happy to oblige.

Answer to teenz Q1: You are correct; it is the path \Program
Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\Office Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool\tzmove.exe .
Also,
yes it is TZMOVER.DLL; I was at home typing from memory, but you don't
have
to reference the .DLL file.

Answer to teenz Q2: No, you do not change the MsExTmz.ini file. Running
MsExTmzCfg will create a subfolder named for your Exchange Server, and in
that subfolder it will create several files, one of which is named
MsExTmz_1.ini. That file will have the path to TZMOVE.EXE that you
entered
when you ran MsExTmzCfg. MsExTmz_1.ini is the .INI file that the batch
file
uses when it runs.

Answer to teenz Q3: No. The location of the MAILBOXES_1.TXT file is in
the
subfolder named for your Exchange Server, for example:
\Program Files\MsExTmz\<Exchange Server name>

Answer to teenz Q4: This will happen only to appointments that fall
within
the extended DST period.

I hope this clears it up a bit. Please reply again if you need more
info.

Logan,

I really appreciate you taking the time to walk me through this. I
have a
couple of questions:

Logan's Response:
"On the terminal server, run the TZMOVE.EXE that you downloaded. That
will
install a file named TZMOVE.EXE along with a TZMOVE.DLL under your
Outlook
folder under your Program Files folder."

teenzbutler Question:
I located the TZMOVE.exe and TZMOVER.dll under \Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\Office Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool. Yes,
TZMOVER.dll.
Is this correct?

Logan's Response:
Run your MsExTmcCfg.exe tool, and be sure to give it the path to the
TZMOVE.EXE file that is installed within your Program Files folder, NOT
the
TZMOVE.EXE that you downloaded. When this tool completes, it will
create a
subfolder with the name of your Exchange Server, and it will create a
batch
file there.

teenzbutler Question:
Do I change the path within the MsExTmz.ini file under
CommandLine=tzmove.exe /q?

Logan's Response:
"If you want to try it out on only a few mailboxes at first, look for a
file
name something like MAILBOXES_1.TXT (again, this is from memory), make
a
backup copy of it, then edit it to include only the mailboxes you want
to
process."

teenzbutler Question:
I assume the MAILBOXES_1.TXT will be found in the subfolder of the
\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Office Outlook Time Zone Data Update
Tool
directory. Is that correct?

Logan's Response:
"One thing to be prepared for. When the tool runs against a mailbox,
it
updates all events created by that user and sends update invitation
messages
to everyone that user invited to a previously scheduled meeting."

teenzbutler Question:
Will this just happen to appointements within the 3/11/07 thru 3/31/07
and
10/29/07 thru 11/4/07 timeframe -OR- ALL appointements?

I believe this thread will be a tremendous help to others. Thanks
again.

What, you can't understand Microsoft's simple directions with this
tool? :)
You're right; the instructions are atrocious.

Anyway, you are on the right track. I also ran the calendar update
tool
from a Citrix server. You have already installed Outlook 2003 and
.NET 2.0,
so you are on the right track. You mentioned working from your
terminal
server, so I will continue to use that as a reference below.

On the terminal server you mentioned, log in as a user with full
mailbox
access to all mailboxes (an Enterprise Admin should have this by
default).
Create an Outlook profile to that user's mailbox, and make it the
profile
that Outlook uses without prompting. (If your Outlook prompts you to
select
a profile when you open Outlook, the calendar update tool will not
work.)
Download the OUTLOOK calendar update tool (TZMOVE.EXE) to the
terminal
server. (The EXCHANGE calendar update tool actually uses the Outlook
tool.)
On the terminal server, run the TZMOVE.EXE that you downloaded.
That will
install a file named TZMOVE.EXE along with a TZMOVE.DLL under your
Outlook
folder under your Program Files folder. Do a search of your Program
Files
folder to find it. (I apologize, but I'm sitting at home writing
this and
don't remember the exact path.) Run your MsExTmcCfg.exe tool, and be
sure to
give it the path to the TZMOVE.EXE file that is installed within your
Program
Files folder, NOT the TZMOVE.EXE that you downloaded. When this tool
completes, it will create a subfolder with the name of your Exchange
Server,
and it will create a batch file there. Run that batch file to update
your
Exchange Server.

You won't actually see this, but the batch file basically uses
Outlook to
open each mailbox, one at a time, and runs TZMOVE.EXE against each
mailbox.
When I ran it, it updated over 400 mailboxes in about 30 minutes.

If you want to try it out on only a few mailboxes at first, look for
a file
names something like MAILBOXES_1.TXT (again, this is from memory),
make a
backup copy of it, then edit it to include only the mailboxes you
want to
process. You can then restore the mailboxes file and run the batch
file
again.

One thing to be prepared for. When the tool runs against a mailbox,
it
updates all events created by that user and sends update invitation
messages
to everyone that user invited to a previously scheduled meeting. You
will
have to let your users know to expect these messages and, more
importantly,
to ACCEPT them. The update tool does not directly update the
meetings to
which a user was invited; they have to accept the invitations from
the
meeting hosts in order to get those updated.

Hope this helps. The above procedure worked for me (after a lot of
false
starts from doing thimgs wrong).

I must be doing something wrong. I installed the Exchange tool on
one of my
terminal servers running Windows Server 2003, .NET 2.0, Outlook
2003, and the
Outlook Calendar Tool. The windows updates have been applied. I
changed the
PickLogonProfile registry key to 0 and I uninstalled KB926666 from
my
Exchangeserver. I double-clicked the MsExTmzCfg.exe tool. A
window opens
and I fill in the required fields, i.e., servername. Then it asks
to select
the mailbox. The only mailbox in the list is Administrator. When
I select
administrator, there is no OK button to continue. I can't go any
further
than this. I apologize, but this is extremely confusing for me.
Can anyone
offer any assistance. I feel as though I have read, and re-read
every
article on this tool...
