Hi Adam,
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
From your description, I know that after you restored from backup, you gotthe Event ID 1084. If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Please take the following steps to see if the problem can be resolved:
Step 1: This behavior can occur when the clients are using a utility called
"Secrets for Windows" or a similar client-side encryption application. If
the client installed this software, please uninstall it for test purpose.
For more information, please refer to:
Error 1084 Reports Corruption in an RTF Attachment
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=232685.
Note: Although the article was written for Exchange 5.5, the same principle
applies to Exchange 2003.
Step 2: This problem occurs when some 3rd party software on that client
computer causes the problem or Outlook profile is corrupted or
mis-configured. The easiest way to recreate the profile is to remove all
the Outlook Profile.
1. Make sure Outlook is closed, open Control Panel and double click Email.
2. Click Show Profiles, select the profile and then click Remove.
3. Connect to \\SBS2003Server\clients\Setup, double click sbsdefault.prf,
this will automatically create the outlook profile with the correct
settings for the corresponding domain user.
If the problem still exists, please help me collect the following
information for further research:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9

2. Run the MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE on the server box.
3. Wait for 10~15 minutes.
4. Open Windows explorer, navigate to %SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Exchange\cab\
5. Send the .cab file directly to me.
MPS Report on problematic client:
1. Download MPS report tool from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE
2. Run the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe on the server box.
3. Wait for 10~15 minutes.
4. Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab\
5. Send the .cab file to me.
Please send the information to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject

<Good Day,
<
<
<
<We are running Exchange server 2003 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 SP1. In
this
<case the client is Outlook 2003 running in cache mode.
<
<
<
<We had a user that was having problem syncing her Palm to her Outlook a
few
<days ago. It ended up that she called Palm and palm had her clean up her
<calendar to fix the problem but somehow the calendar is now missing stuff.
<I do not know what happened. After going over everything I found like
three
<calendars on her system and four in the deleted bin in outlook. So I went
<through and cleaned up the best that I could and got the Calendar the way
<she wanted it.
<
<
<
<She then asked me if I could restore her calendar from my backup. I do a
<brick level backup everyday (please do not discuss the pros and cons of
<brick level backup as I like them) Anyway I restored her calendar from an
<early tape and it looked like it worked. I went into her Outlook after
the
<backup was finished but the data was the same.
<
<
<
<Later that day I looked at my event logs and I noticed a bunch of warnings
<which I have seen before about the view not being able to be deleted or
<completed at this time which I have looked up and this error can be
ignored
<but I found three errors that are different which are
<
<
<
<Event Source MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store
<
<Event ID 1084
<
<There is a corruption in rich text format (RTF)
<
<
<
<I looked this up and it says something about a third party product that
<could be running of which I am not sure what that could be. Does anybody
<have any ideas and should I be worried about this? I am going to see what
<happened later over night and if my backup completes Ok.
<
<
<
<My best guess is that there is something in her calendar that is corrupt.
<If so how could I tell what that is to clean this up?
<
<
<
<Thanks
<
