Re: message tracking log format

Looks like a normal address. External recipients show it as a normal SMTP
address, internal recipients show it as it appears in the GAL.

Another question, what does the email address look like in the email
message when the recipient it is destined for recieves it ?

Forgot to say, be very careful with ldap tools such as ldp as they can be
very destructive.

If you find it always happens for a particular user it might be worth
using something like ldp.exe to dump out a user it occurs on and one it
does not and compare the two for any obvious differences.

Paul - we only have 03 in a test environment right now, so it's hard to
say if there is any dependency on user. All servers are displaying the
LDAP logging. Good question on looking at a single message.

I swear I used those exact same search terms and didn't get that
article. That is exactly what I was looking for, so thanks for that!

Thanks

Kevin,

As far as I am aware that is not a configurable option.

Is it completely random or does it always happen when sending to
certain users ? Is message tracking enabled on more than one server ?
If so, does the same behaviour occur on the same message on the other
servers ? Is it only when messages go via a certain route or connector
?

Have you seen the "message tracking event ids in Exchange Server 2003"
article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821905/en-us

Regards

Paul

We are about ready to upgrade from E2k to E2k03. Yes, we know E2k07
is out but we aren't ready to go there yet :)

We use the message tracking log to generate some internal security
reports. We've noticed a change in some of the data.

In Exchange 2000, the log showed the sender or recipient in standard
smtp format user@domain
In Exchange 2003, it appears that sometimes it shows in an LDAP DN
format.

So my questions are:
1) is that a configurable option?
2) if not, can someone explain, or point to a KB article, that
explains the entries? What is confusing us is the "sometimes"
3) is there a good reference for the eventids as used in the message
tracking log?

Thanks
Kevin
