POP or IMAP access for 2nd user?

I've been Googling the hell out of this issue, so hopefully someone
here can help...
I'm getting a "unified messaging" setup with a new PBX (NEC) and it
delivers the users voicemail as a WAV file via normal SMTP. The
problem comes in with the feature to keep your voicemail in your
mailbox in sync with the voicemails sitting on the traditional
voicemail system. It uses either POP or IMAP to access the user's
mailbox and delete voicemails from one side or the other as needed.
The way they say I have to set it up is to enter each user's
credentials into the syncing application. The obvious problem is that
every time the user changes their password, they'll have to tell it to
me and I'll have to go update it. What I figured would be easy to do
is create one account that has rights to every mailbox and use that for
syncing. I can't seem to find a way to access a mailbox other than the
one associated with the account I'm using for access. This doesn't
seem to me to be an odd thing to want to do... am I missing something
obvious?

I have a client that uses his in-house voicemail to call the back door number and 1) send him his company's telephone number for to indicate he has an in-house voicemail message or 2) have the in-house system leave him a message that someone called the company hotline. ... it would be interesting to know what plan or option they added for you. ...
