Re: exchange 5.5 test lab

I concur...Thank you..
I have one question.
Is SID history a requirement when migrating NT4.0 accts to a new
forest/domain assuming my new accts would not need access to any of the
source resources ?
My ONLY concern is that I need to migrate all exchange5.5 mailboxes to a new
forest/domain,(NT domain to a Win2003 Forest/single domain). Also I think
this would be consider as an inter-org migration since an exchange org
cannot span forests, Correct ?
Hope I am not making this too difficult but perhaps my migration path should
be Intra-org migration or perhaps an Intra-Org since NT 4.0 is not a forest
therefore I will be able to join the new exchange server to the same
exchange ORG ..

Thanks once again

Hi,

Thank you for taking time to response.

Unfortunately, we just recommend to migrate Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003
by using the method that I mentioned. We are unable to guarantee the third
party method works in your scenario, I strongly suggest you perform the
migration using Microsoft suggesting way. However you may learn and
benefit
from other in this froum.

Have a nice day!

Best Regards,

Chace Zhang (MSFT)

| Hello Chace,
| Thanks for the clarification and the excellent info..
| We are in the process of performing an intra-org migration however we
have
| decided not to upgrade NT PDC for numerous reasons but migrate to a
| pristine Win2003 environment . We have also chosen to use a third party
| migration tool NetIQ to migrate all our NT accounts to win2003 . As per
our
| environment and requirement there is no need for SID history since all
data
| (resources) will be copied to the new server via robocopy and then
re-acl
| (security translation) perform on each new resource servers . However
this
| bring up an interesting question, since we will not be using ADMT to
migrate
| our accts and SID history ,how can I get my exchange 5.5 mailbox
migrated
?
| Can I assume that the following can be performed in the following order
| granted we will NOT be using ADMT
| 1) Install and run Exdeploy tools on the new exchange 2003 server
| 2) Install ADC on the new exchange 2003 and configure the 3 connection
| agreement -recipient - public folder - and configuration
| 3) Install Exchange 2003
| 4) Move mailbox resources
|
| Thanks again
