Oliver,

Thanks for your advice, we did it that way :-)

Hi there,

I've done this myself a few months ago.

I would go and install SP2 and upgrade the virtual server as suggested,
without installing any post hotfixes.

I would then test the cluster, then fail over and test the other cluster
node, so you know everything is working as expected.

Once you have confirmed your SP2 upgrade is successful (cluster is online,
no errors in eventvwr, MAPI, OWA, OMA, ActiveSync etc all working across all
nodes in cluster, install the post hotfixes. Test, failover, repeat (as
above).

You can remove some of the above if you have a GOOD test enviroment, however
you can never be too careful.

When I install hotfixes on a production cluster I only ever patch the
passive node, then failover at an agreed time with the business, and then
run on this node for 24/48 hours so you know you have no issues. Then patch
the other node.

Your mileage and practices may well vary depending on the scope of your
business and SLA's

You can never be too careful,

Hello,

I am currently preparing the upgrade of our Exchange 2003 SP1 cluster
to SP2, and I have a small question regarding this KB article :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328839/en-us.

I want to apply the latest hotfixes after SP2 has been installed, but,
at point 11, it is specified that if I apply a hotfix, I have to skip
this step and go to point 12, otherwise, I have to execute another
command (Upgrade Exchange Virtual Server) from Cluster Administrator.

As I plan to apply hotfixes, I am surprised that in the rest of the
procedure, I do not see any mention to the Upgrade Exchange Virtual
Server command anymore : is it normal or should I run it anyway ?

And by the way, is it correct to apply hotfixes just after applying SP2
(let's say this would be a 4bis point in the procedure) ? Or do I have
to "rerun" the procedure from the beginning to apply the hotfixes ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Luuke
