Exchange can accept authentication from another domain if trusts are in
place and permissions are properly configured. I can't speak to your
particular situation because you described lots of stuff about smartphones
but nothing about user accounts, trusts, permissions and mailbox rights.

To clarify my subject, I am in need of documentation as to why can't
Exchange 2003 SP2 can't communicate between two domains.
EX:
My university has two domains. One is the main domain that most users
logon to and the other is a library domain. For one reason or another,
the library decided to be proactive and setup an Exchange Server for
there users (in the library domain). Some of the users in the main
domain wanted you use the shared functionality of the Exchange Server
and were setup for that. According to what I understand I didn't know
that was possible without a "two way trust", but apparently it did
work.
My problem started when we tried to setup the Vice Pres (who is on the
main domain) with a new pocketpc/cellphone. I tried typing in all the
info and then typed in the username, password, then the domain....ahhh,
I tried all kinds of different options...nothing worked....I then
remembered that our University Police Department had their own separate
domain and they also ran exchange...called up their tech guy (good guy
knows ALOT) and he was the one who told me about this issue....he also
told me that if we took that server and moved it to our domain (main
domain) then only the Domain Admins can administer the Exchange Server
and that would mean we would have to make a person who doesn't really
know much about domains (the guy in the library that manages the
exchange server) in a Domain Admin on the main domain....which is
clearly not an option.
My BIG boss told me to research why we are having this problem....and
possible solutions.
Once again the thing that confuses me about all this is that I can
setup my outlook settings to access the exchange server and can do so
but I can't setup my pocketpc?
Thanks In Advance.
