Re: 2nd email domain for all users

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Couple things here. If they're using outlook or outlook express and you have
both domain accounts configured for them in their client they can specify
the email account to use when sending which will send it through whatever
server the choose. IE. send from pop will send through the existing isp and
sending from your domain account will show as coming from your domain. Also
if/when you bring those users into your environment and create a new
recipient policy and assign the specified users to this pop.com domain in
ADUC change their primary email address to be that of pop.com

This is where, for now at least, my problem is. There are users that are
not part of our Exchange organization that have email addresses at this
domain. I may end up doing what you've said - route using mx records -
then
have the other users get their email through our exchange server.

I would like to be able to grab the email for the accounts in our
organization and leave the mx records alone for now. My concern is that
I
need emails from our primary domain appear from that domain and emails
from
this 2nd domain to appear from that domain.

I setup the recipient policy with the new domain for the selected users.
I
sent an email to one of those users, they replied, their reply comes from
our
primary company domain.

Not sure what you mean by ISP-type setup... can you allow users POP3
access
to Exchange mail like ISPs do? Yes.

Yes, you also need to route mail for the new domain to your Exchange
server - point the MX record in the external DNS zone of the new domain
to
your Exchange server.

Can I do this through an ISP type setup? If so, do I just set the ISP
email/pw as the user's name and password?

Do I need to route all email via mx record to our exchange server?

Create a new Recipient Policy to add the new domain, use a filter
that
picks
up those 6 users.
You can have them retrieve their email using POP/IMAP4/OWA (HTTP).

I'm running SBS 2003 / Exch 2003 - works well. Our company is
going
through
some changes, one of which will require some of the users to have a
second
email address with a different domain - call it pop.com. In
addtion to
this,
the email accounts at pop.com are currently controlled outside the
company
and - at this time - there are 6 users, not in this office who have
addresses
at pop.com.
Currently, just to get things going, my plan is to add pop3
accounts in
outlook at each user's pc for their pop.com address. I don't want
to
do
it
this way for obvious many reasons.
I'm looking for suggestions.
I probably could take control of the pop.com email and make the
outside
users get their pop3 from my exchange server. shouldn't be too
much of
a
strain.
Since my experiene with Exchagne server is limited to SBS, I don't
know
how
or if I can add a second email domain.

suggestions? Ideas?
