RE: SRS deletion

Hi,

Thank you for posing here.

From your post, I understand you want to know the detailed steps to remove
ADC and SRS. If I'm off based, please do not let me know.

Based on my research, 8026 error is related config_CA, remove ADC could
resolve this issue. In general we should delete Exchange 5.5 after that
delete SRS and ADC.

Note: The SRS should be removed before you uninstall ADC. Otherwise the
Config_CA associated to the SRS become ghosted object in Active Directory
and we don't have a way to remove it.

1. Start ESM.
2. Remove the SRS object.
3. After all the SRSs have been deleted, remove the Active Directory
Connector (ADC) service.

I would like to suggest you follow the steps below. The steps can help you
cleanly remove the Exchange 5.5 server from Exchange 2003 administrative
group.

1. Open the ADSI Edit tool by running adsiedit.msc from Start -> Run on
your Exchange 2003 or Windows 2003 DC server. ADSI Edit is included within
the Windows 2003 Support Tools. If you have not installed it yet, please
install it from Windows 2003 Setup CD.

2. In the left pane, expand the Configuration Container [the FQDN of your
domain] and locate the following folder:

CN=Configuration,DC=yourdomain,DC=com -> CN=Services -> CN=Microsoft
Exchange -> CN=[your organization name] -> CN=Administrative Groups ->
CN=[your site name]-> CN=Servers -> CN=[the name of the Exchange 5.5 server
you want to remove]

3. Right-click on the CN=[the name of the Exchange 5.5 server you want to
remove] folder and choose Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. This
removes all the information about the Exchange 5.5 server from Active
Directory (AD). Since Exchange 2000 purely uses AD as its directory, the
directory will then be clean and you will see that the Exchange 5.5
disappears from ESM. If you have multiple DC servers, allow time for the
deletion to replicate to all of them.

4. For the physical server of the Exchange 5.5, after make sure it is
offline, you can format it or do anything else you want.

5. Finally, you can go on to perform step 4 to step 7 in the "Removing the
Last Exchange 5.5 Server" section of the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
article to remove SRS (Config_CA), ADC and then change to native mode.

HOW TO: Migrate from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=316886

Note: this article is also applied to Exchange 2003.

For your convenience, I have included these four steps below:

(1). Wait for the Exchange Server 5.5 computer to disappear from Exchange
System Manager, and then use Exchange System Manager to delete the Site
Replication Service, which is located in the following
location:Organization\Tools\Site Replication
Services\YourSiteReplicationService

(2). This procedure deletes the Config_CA connection agreement and you can
now delete the ADC Recipient and Public Folder Connection Agreements.

(3) Use the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove the Active Directory
Connection Manager.

(4). You can now locate Exchange System Manager, click the Organization,
click Properties, and then switch to native mode. To do so, under the
General tab, click Change Mode.

Have a nice day!

| We have an E2K3 SP2 AG in pure mode that used to be in mixed mode. It has
| exactly one E2K3 SP2 server in it. The SRS on that server is stopped and
set
| to disabled. The user/public ADC agreements deleted. The Config_CA still
| exists, only because I've read never delete an SRS until no 5.5 servers
in
| org. We still have one 5.5 server in a pure 5.5 site but that server
| replicates to another, active SRS in another E2K3 SP2 AG.
|
| We are getting rid of the last 5.5 server and site later this week. Can
we
| delete the inactive, unneeded SRS from ESM now so the ADC Config_CA will
get
| deleted? Because the really really annoying 8026 error every 5 minutes
| related to that SRS that we initially had when we switched to pure mode
| months ago has started up again even though replication schedule set to
| never (iirc that is what got rid of error initially). I think I caused
error
| to resuscitate by accidentally clicking Replicate Now on the Config_CA
when
| trying to get rid of another 5.5 site. I've tried restarting ADC and
even
| rebooting, but 8026 continues.
