Re: Blank lines in global address list

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I Really am not sure - just started with this company, and not familiar with
their structure as yet; looking at the AD, it seems that the replication is
not working properly (possibly a permissions issue?), as the OWA is showing
the lists correctly - and so is the preview on the exchange server. I Have
tried to rebuild the RUS, and restarted the exchange SAS, but this hasn't
seemed to have helped. I'm not sure how they have set up the AD structure, as
a lit of the tabs and options that I am familiar with don't seem to be on
their AD, or are "greyed out"
I Think I'm drowning here..

Or it could be that the address list generation hasn't happened in a while.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the outlook client is outlook2000; I
have
already deleted and re-created a profile on a client machine, and am still
having the problem - the problem seems to be with the query that is
drawing
the address list, it shouldn't be adding these names and is, and on some
clients the name is listed in the address book, and on some clients, the
line
where this entry would be appears as a blank line in the address book.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

I suspect that you're seeing old Outlook 2003 Cached Mode entries.
Disable
cached mode on a client and see if the entries magically disappear from
the
GAL. If so, my suspicion is accurate.

Four things have to happen--and in this order--before recipients show up
in
the GAL in Outlook 2003 with cached mode:
1. The object or change must replicate to the domain controller the RUS
uses.

2. The RUS must run and stamp the user with Exchange attributes.

3. The offline address book must be generated. This is a scheduled
activity.

4. Outlook 2003 must synchronize itself with the offline address book.
This
is directed by Outlook.

We are running exchange 2003 std. with AD, and when staff leave they
are
placed into a group called ex-emp; although their accounts have been
disabled, and their mailboxes are marked as "hide3 from address book",
some
of them are still appearing in the global address list, or are leaving
blank
lines in the global list where they would have been. Can anyone please
help
me resolve this?
Thank you

Robin
