Re: SMTP reciveconnector Exchange 2007

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

So i am wondering how this will work on the internal network, when a perl
script or anyother type of script needs to send emails using SMTP and the
script is pointing to the ip address of the receive connector on the hub. I
guess i can always create a new receive connecotor on the hub and specify
what ip's can make a connection to the connector.

It doesn't. :-)

Which is why you also can set Basic. However, if you use Basic, you need to
uncheck the option to only use Basic after TLS, or you need to make sure
that you have a certificate configured correctly.

Yea that worked. I setup the SMTP recive connecotor on the HUB to use
intagrated auth and configured OE for Secure password auth and now i can
send
email to any domains that the Exchange server is authorative for and to
any
remote domains. I didnt thin intagrated auth worked through very well
through
most firewalls

Thanks again for the help

BTW - if you've also been following the web forums, I answered this there
as
well. The problem here I believe is that the Receive Connector (for
clients) on your Hub transport server is set up to use Basic auth, but
only
after TLS has started. If you have a cert installed, that shouldn't be
an
issue, but if you don't have a cert, it won't work.

How are you authenticating? You should be using domain\username.

Oh - also, here is the other thing. On your Hub transport, there
should
be 2 receive connectors (though I think only one is actually required
here). One of them is for client connections and listens on port 587.
See
if that is the case here.

No go

When i point OE to the hub i get an authentication issue, even when i
specify creds in OE

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's
e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'shofmann@xxxxxxxxxx'.
Subject 'test', Account: 'test', Server: '10.60.50.148', Protocol:
SMTP,
Server Response: '530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78.

I thought by default the connectors out of the box in Ex 2007 on the
hub
didnt allow SMTP access to the connector except from the EDGE server.

Configure Outlook Express to authenticate to the outgoing server, and
set it
up to use your Hub Transport as the outgoing server.

The way you are trying to do it now, it sounds like you are trying to
anonymously relay through your Edge server. That won't work.

Hi all

Running Exchange beta two and testing out the the functionality of
the
send
and recive connectors. I currently have an Edge server on one box
and
all
the
other roles on aother box. When i open outlook express on my PC
configure
it
with the ip address of the receiveconnector that is on the edge
(permissionsgroup is anonymous and custom) I can send email to
domains
that
my Exchange 2007 is set to recive email for, (cant send email to
othje
remote
domains) but this only works if I configure in outlook express
profile
for
the "email address box" and "reply address" an external email
address
that
my
Ex 2007 mail server is not authorative for. If I setup in OE an
email
address
that my Ex2007 domain is authroative for, i get an error in OE that
says
"this account does not have permissions to send email as this user"

Any idea why this is occuring?

Thanks
