Correction... ignore the "internet mail without Edge servers" post - seems
you do have an Edge server in place.

- If you can telnet to smtp from a different computer on the same network,
try sending a message using telnet to figure out if your Receive Connector
accepts anonymous mail or requires authentication. If it requires
authentication, you can allow anonymous users to send:
Exchange Server 2007: internet email without Edge servers
http://www.exchangepedia.com/blog/2006/07/exchange-server-2007-internet-email.html
- If the server accepts mail, next stop is to test from outside. Can you
telnet to smtp port of the receiving server from outside (using
external/NATted IP address of the server)? If not, check your firewall
configuration. Does it allow smtp traffic from outside to that server?
- If firewall looks ok and you can telnet from outside, check your
external DNS - can you resolve MX record(s)?
