I'm fairly certain the messages were deferred by a user, but not sure how I
can track/verify...is there a tool/utility available that would show me what
exactly is in the mailbx send queue?

Has this been a regular occurrence? Or just a one-time thing. Personally,.
I'd probably just keep it on your list of things to watch for in the future.
I don't know that there is a lot of troubleshooting that can be done
after-the fact.
Do know you if there are any 3rd party apps on that server? Such as
antivirus or anti-spam? I'd rule out anything 3rd party before continuing.

Thanks for the response, I already ran both the troubleshooting assistant
and
EXBPA (prior to post) and they didn't report this problem. We're using
MOM,
with the Exch MGT pack, which looks at this queue and if > 25 reports the
error...the queue cleared about an 30min ago. I first thought it might be
someone deferring a message for later delivery, but the MTA counter didn't
indicate any msgs were queued...so not sure why/what caused the messages
to
hang in the queue.

What tool (besides perfmon) are you using that tells you that there are
messages in this queue?
From
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2000/maintain/e2kops4.mspx
MSExchangeIS Mailbox and MSExchangeIS Public
For these objects, monitor the following counters:
. Send Queue Size - This shows the queue of messages outbound from
the
Information Store. In situations where the SMTP service is down or there
is
a reduction in performance, you will see a nonzero value for this queue.
On
large busy systems (2000 users or more) you may never see this value at
zero, but on smaller ones (500 or so medium users) you would not expect
to
see nonzero values for any significant period of time.

I have 26 messages stuck in this queue and can not seem to find a
utility
to
view the messages. I believe this queue indicates messages that have
not
transfered to SMTP, and are still in the owning mailbox/s.
The Queue viewer shows all queue's at zero. The perfmon counter for
this
queue shows that SG2 Mbox Store #4 has all the queued messages...The
MTA
Defered delivery msgs counter is zero, so i don't believe its user/s
delaying
delivery of a message. We are running exchange 2003 sp1 on Win 2003
ent
sp1.
Can someone give me an idea on where/how to view these messages so I
can
determine if we have an issue with our exchange server?
Thanks in advance...
