Thanks for your input...
We are using Webblocker but not the Spamblocker. I have a request into
Watchguard for pricing on a newer 'Edge' model but have not heard back from
them yet... THe use of one of the newer models would give us much more
protection - spam, spyware, virus etc... etc.. We have a Firebox III/700 and
really none of that stuff is available. From what I have read on our model,
the Spamscreen add on does not work that well. Maybe you have a newer
Firebox?
We are very impressed with Spam Soap so far. Hardly any spam gets through
now and each user gets a daily email that includes a report of any spam sent
to them. They can then manage their own spam from a nice web console ie..
release it, delete it, add to allowed senders etc..etc.. There is all kinds
of administrative stuff there as well that we have not even really started
to use yet. I am very pleased - but then again was not at all happy with
Symantec's mail security SPAM portion so in my opinion anything would be
better than that!! Also, this means that I don't have anything here being
bogged down with the job anymore. As well, they do incoming and outgoing
antivirus filtering on all email, mail store and forward etc.. etc.. (which
we have already had to use) . I really have to say I've been impressed with
their service to date.

Hi Brad,
This might help you. I too use Watchguard. I configured my Watchguard
with
SpamBlocker and WebBlocker. Also, I use TrendMicro SMB for our antivirus
solution. I do agree with John, they are cheaper and they will give you a
competitive upgrade package if you are switching from one AV to them. And
still their licensing is much cheaper than Symantec. Easy to install as
well
and great support also. The Watchguard SpamBlocker and WebBlocker are also
easy to use and install and they are very reasonable in terms of
licensing. I
would check them out. Why go to third parties when Watchguard can do it
for
you. Especially if you are a small company.

What is IMHO you are referring to??
I have done some research and there was a freeware version from GFI of
their Mail Security for Exchange ver 8 product. (I believe they are at
ver
10 of this product now) If I could get my hands on that (it is no longer
available on their site) it would be nice to have at least something in
house - especially if it is free!
Thanks for the info though, I was hoping to hear that... It was pointed
out
before in a differnt post that someone could come in with a USB device
(or
CD etc..) containing an infected file and proceed to email that file as
an
attachment to other users. With no Mail Security product installed on
Exchange, would it still be caught by the Symantec AV client installed on
each users desktop?? I would think so... We do have the Exchange
auto-protect turned on which scans all email attachements at the client
level..
So I believe we would be ok...
Do you run a gateway AV product on your mail server?
Thanks, Brad

If you have Spam Soap, as I do, there is really no reason to keep the
subscription to the Symantec Mail Security. If you, at some point,
choose to leave Spam Soap, which IMHO is a great solution, then I would
look at Trend Micro for the Desktops, Server, and Exchange. Its half
the
cost of Symantec and does a better job IHMO.

We are currently running Symantecs Mail Security for Exchange product
on
our SBS 2000 machine - as well as having Symantec's AV Corporate
installed on every machine in our organization. We have recently
outsourced SPAM detection to a company called SPAM Soap who also
provides
virus detection. No email can reach our organization UNLESS it comes
through their servers first (We have rules defined on our Watchguard
firebox's SMTP service to ensure this...) - where it is scanned for
both
SPAM content and VIRUS infections.
In an effort to cut costs I am looking at doing away completley with
the
Mail Security product - which runs roughly $1200/year in licensing
fees.
Is there another gateway AV product for Exchange (free would be
great!!
:-) ) out there that anyone uses and can recommend that is relatively
inexpensive and does a good job?
I have thought about not even bothering with a gateway AV product in
house and just rely on SPAM Soap and our AV Corp edition to do the job
which may be just fine. Of course if we opted out of SPAM Soapp we
would
need to have something implemented proto. Any comments are welcome...
Thanks, Brad
.
