Someone just told me that they've had trouble when an administrator does not
have local admin rights on the Exchange Server. I haven't seen this problem
myself, although I might be working such an issue right now, but won't know
whether granting such access fixes the problem for a little while.

unfortunately its quite common that the ESM be installed on workstations
of people who need to administer exchange, and terminal services isnt
always an option for any number of reasons.
so, do you know if the user does indeed have to be a local admin for this
to work?

The workstation will need to be a domain member. Even so, that's a lousy
idea from a security perspective because it makes you run with elevated
permissions on the same workstation you open e-mail with and surf the web
with, potentially exposing your entire network to a security breech. I
really like using Terminal Services to locked-down boxes for
administrative functions.

if i install the ESM on a workstation, most exchange tasks fail unless
the user is a Local Administrator of the workstation the ESM is running
on. can someone say of this is definitive? do i have to set these guys
up as local admins? i would think MS would have considered this....
