I searched for both and neither came up.

I deleted the Directory Replication Connector folders, and all of a
sudden the 5.5 server stores AND the 2003 servers with "front-end"
checked on them stopped showing up as target mail servers for new
mailbox creation.

This doesn't make sense to me, but the problem is fixed and I don't
have a backup to test it again so I would consider it a done deal.
