Re: How to remove a user from a mail group (Tried to search...)

That's the reason it makes sense to not mail-enable Security Groups.
If you're using Distribution Groups, these cannot show up in any ACLs
(cannot have permissions assigned) - so you'll never need to worry about
such a scenario.

First thing to do is find out if it's a Distribution Group or a mail-enabled
Security Group. If the former, you don't need to worry about this.

If it is a Security Group, you'll need to figure out the what different
resources the group could have permissions on. Good luck with that!

I guess that is where my question is: How do I know if I am just removing
the user from a distribution group, and not removing the permissions
allowed
to her through being a member of a group?

I am confused, so bare with me:
I do a search in ADUC for the user name of the person that I want to
remove
from this email group.

When her name appears in the search results, I double click and get
properties. I go to "member of" tab. I double click the group that she
wants to be removed of the email distrobution list from, it opens up the
properties of that group. I select members, and see a list of all the
members of that group. Her name is one of them. If I remove her name
from
this list, how am I sure that all I am doing is removing her ability to
receive email sent to that group, and not removing her from her all the
benefits of being a member of that group? Does that make sense???

Not sure what permissions you are referring to.

Distribution Groups are used for email distribution - messages sent to
the
group are received by all members. Distribution Groups are not security
principals, and thus cannot have any permissions assigned to them.

Security Groups are used to assign permissions, but can also be used as
Distribution Groups if mail-enabled. Any permissions on a resource
assigned
to a Security Group are inherited by members. When you remove a member
from
the group, you do not need to remove any permissions from the member
(user) - because the permissions are assigned to the group (not the
user).

Thank you! I have a question here:

I did a search for the group, and found it. Then, under the members
tab
on
the properties of this group, I found two Active Directory Folders. I
double
clicked the one folder that I thought would contain the member I needed
to
delete from this group. I found the member. My question is this: How
is
it
that I am only deleting her name from this particular email group, and
NOT
taking away her permissions that were given to her within that group?
Does
that make sense?

Thank you for the help...

Locate the group in AD Users & Computers, go to properties | Members
tab
and
remove the user.
Or locate the user, go to properties | Member Of tab and remove the
group.

The
mail
group is set up in Exchange as a group of users, but this person has

How

Thank you.
