Thanks for the quick reply. He uses AOL to get on the internet and then
uses Outlook the same as he would here. Incoming is mail.mainstaycomm.net
and outgoing is smtp2.mainstaycomm.net. He is set up to authenticate to
both servers, server timeout is at 1 min 30 sec. Exchange is listed in his
profile 1st, then the ISP.
The email is with the ISP as I wanted time to learn before I made the
switch. Up until 18 months ago, we were a peer-to-peer network, then we got
SBS 2003, but no broadband (we're in a very rural area of Nebraska). A year
ago a satellite provider started offering service in our area, so we jumped
on that. Tried a few weeks ago to make the switch to Exchange-based email,
but couldn't get it to work. Finally figured out I needed to forward port
25 on my router, and am ready to try again this weekend.
I have him setup with a POP3 connector for his account. I agree about
switching, we can do better; just didn't want to jump into something I
didn't know how to support.

Exchange 2003 on Small Business Server 2003 Premium, ISP hosted
external email, dynamic IP through DYNDNS.com
==========================
Our Director is on a road trip; called me after the first day to say
he is not getting any emails. Checked with the ISP, they said
"everything looks fine on our end". Re-checked my account at
DYNDNS.com and at NetworkSolutions.com - the MX records haven't
changed - and all the rest of us are unaffected. Found he can send
OK, just can't receive. Checked the ISP's mail IP and our domain at
DNSReports.com and DNSStuff.com - all looks fine.
The ISP is slow to work on this; what "things" can I tell them to look
at/for to find the reason our Director can't get emails?
Many thanks in advance!
How is he connecting to your Exchange server while remotely? Meaning, what
precisely is he using - Outlook? What services are in the profile? Is he
using both POP and Exchange for some reason?
Why do you have your mail hosted elsewhere? Are you using the SBS POP
connector? I'd switch, frankly. This is not the best way to go. You can
use your dyndns stuff for mail, you know - your MX record can be
myaccount.mydyndnsdomain.com (and you might look into their MailHop
BackupMX for a secondary MX record).
