How to...

Hi
Please point me to the correct newsgroup to go to for this as the ones that seems logical have very few postings...
In any case, I'm trying to find out what's causing our network to suddenly slow down (my ISP is reporting large traffic) going out and in.
I need to apply a sniffer software at our access point and I was told that I need to plug into the switch and mirror the port or put a hub at that junction. Currently, I am using Netgear's gigabit switch at the junction and I suppose it doesn't have the "port mirroring" capability... since I'm pretty new to this stuff, I need some guidance on how to set up a "mirrored port"... apparently alot of people know how to say this but when I ask for specifics, they have no clue how... so, I do have a Cisco Catalyst 2950 24-port switch that i can swap out the Netgear and apparently it has a mirroring capability. I just don't know what to do with it. The Cisco switch has a console port.
I do have Sniffer Pro installed on one of my laptops.
Any assistance with pitfalls to watch out for would be great.
R Green
