Thanks!
I just discovered another interesting finding. I just rebooted the
server and all exchnage services are fine. How do I ensure that everything
gets
installed? I tried the OWA and it did not work and got "the page can not be
displayed"
Any idea?

You can install Exchange 2003 without issues on the new hardware, and join.
it to the existing org. The only thing that won't work is OWA. So if you
were to install the new server as Exchange 2003, move mailboxes, then, say,
over a weekend or weeknight, rebuild the FE server, that ought to work just
fine.

Anyway, thanks for your help.
Since I am going to use the new hardware server, is there anyway to get
around not to upgrade the exchange 2000 frontend server and install
exchange
2003 directory?
Thanks.

I'm finding zero information on this. I'd recommend calling PSS on this
one.
The error *sounds* like it could be an issue with the Computer Account.
Do
you have more than 1 Front-end server? If so, does the same error appear
for the other one(s)?

Sorry and one correction: I have to upgrade all exchange 2000 server
FRONTEND first and then introduce the new exchange 20003 servers
Can anyone shred light on me?

Thanks for your help.
We have Exchange 2000 native environment (2 frontend and two backend
servers) and I did run forestprep and domainprep already otherwise you
will
get message as"you need to run forestprep and domainprep..when you try
to
upgrade. No, I do not have other Exchange 2003 server and this is the
first
exchange 2000 frontend server I tried to upgrade. I have to upgrade
all
exchange 2000 server first and then introduce the new exchange 20003
servers.
I am totally lost and also I check the schema version's upper range is
6870.
Much appreciated.

If you do not have others, then Exchange 2003 Forestprep needs to be
run.
If you are only a Domain Admin, you do not have rights to update the
Schema.
You need to be a member of the Enterprise Admins and Schema Admins
groups
(as well as Domain Admins) in order to do that. If your account is
not
a
member of those groups, then you can log in with an account that is,
and
*just* run Forestprep. You can do that using the Deployment Tools
(exdeploy
from the CD) or by running setup.exe with the /forestprep switch.
