Well....
Before i disabled the Information Store scan the number of sessions had
been rising about 6 per day. I kept an eye on it yesterday (after
disabling the scan) and it remained at the same number all day and its
still the same this morning.
So without jumping to conclusions it appears to have had an effect.
However, i am not sure how happy i am with the information store 'not'
being scanned?! I know it get scanned on the smtp feed but still.....

funny enough I thought it might be to do with database scanning, I'm going
to disable ours.

Hi
I have bit the bullet and given Sophos a call.....
Firstly thay 'had' heard of such issues regarding Exchange Database
Sessions and Sophos/Pure Message.
They instructed me to try the following......
1. Firstly the asked me to check wether or not Puremessage was scanning
the Information Store. Our's was scanning the Information Store so i
have stopped this for now.
Sophos claimed that this is normally the main offender for causing
these orphaned sessions.
2. Sophos claimed if that does not solve the problem upgrade (if you
already havent) to Puremessage Version 2.6
For now i have only done the guy's first reccomendation. I will keep
you all posted!
fingers crossed ;-)

Hi
I have been following this thread extremly closely as we are currently
having the exact same problem.
We are running -
Exchange 2003 SP2
Sophos 5.2.2
Puremessage 2.5.1e
I am relectant to increase the limit on the number of db sessions
allowed as i would rather solve the problem rather than just simply
delaying it. I have added a performance counter/monitor in the number
of sessions in use and have been keeping an eye on it since yesterday.
The number is slowly increasing.
As with most of you, a reboot gets rid of these 'orphaned' sessions for
the time being but it will happen again in about 2-3 weeks time.
I have done a lot of searching for this problem on the net but
unfortuinately to no avail....
My last resort was going to be putting in a call to Sophos but i have
the feeling they are not going to tell me much??!
If anyone did find a solution for this it would be greatly appreciated
if ryou could advise or at least point us in the right direction.
Many thanks in advance
Lee

Just had the error again.
I'm going to put a support call in to Sophos, as Puremessage does seem
to
be
the common factor.

I concur. In fact there were no DB errors listed when we ran the
tools.
Let me know if you find out anything. I had to reboot my server
after
patches so I've restarted the waiting game.
thanks,
