Look for the missing container using ADSIEdit. I'm not sure why this would
become a problem just recently and you should be extremely careful while
using ADSIEdit but you should also be able to delete the entry.

I am having an issue with the Offline Address Book that suddenly stopped
updating changes to the Global Address list on clients that run Outlook
2003
in cache mode. This started for no apparent reason sometime last week.
We
noticed it this morning when a user called to complain that a new user was
not appearing in the GAL. This user had been added late last week. I
have
tried rebuilding the RUS, and regenerating the OAL, then forcing the
download
of the OAB using Tools/ Send and Receive / Download Address Book in
Outlook.
This did not fix the issue.
We are running Exchange 2003 w/SP2. I noticed the following errors in the
Application log whenever we forced a rebuild of the OAL: The first event
was
a warning:

Event ID: 9341
Description:
The parent Legacy Exchange DN Container Value '/o=company name/ou=San
Francisco/cn=Recipients/cn=Marshfield' was not found during generation of
the
differential update file for offline address list '\Global Address list'.
This will force clients sing this offline address list to do a full
download
of the offline address list.

Note: This is making reference to our long gone Exchange 5.5 environment.
Marshfield was a sub container in our Recipient container. It became an
OU
in AD, but has since been deleted form AD. We did a migration form
Exchange
5.5 to Exchange 2003 back in 2004. I can not figure out where to go in
Exchange, or AD to remove this reference.
The second Event ID is:

Category: OAL Generator
Event ID: 9360
Description:
OALGen encountered an error while generating the changes.oab file for
version 2 and 3 differential downloads of address list '\Global Address
List'. The offline address list has not been updated so clients will not
be
able to download the current set of changes. Check other logged events to
find the cause of this error.
If the cause of the problem was intentional or cannot be resolved, OALGen
can be forced to post a full offline address list by creating the DWORD
registry key
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Parameters\OAL
post full if diff fails' and setting it to 1 on this server. When OALGen
next generates the offline address list, clients will perform a full OAB
download. After that time, the registry key should be removed to prevent
further full downloads.

For the short term, I created the registry entry as instructed in the
description above. Now, once users force Outlook to download the OAL they
do
see the changes that were made over the past few days. However, I see
this
as a work around, and not a fix. As the description states above, the
registry entry should be removed to prevent further full downloads.
Is the initial warning regarding the Marshfield container what is causing
the Event ID 9360 error and not allowing the differential file to be
created?
I have turned the OAL generation logging to medium and this is the only
other warning or logged event error that appears. If so, how do I remove
this? If the warning would not be the source of the 9360 error, what
steps
do I need to take to track down the cause and get this running properly.
